How To Pick The Right Bed Sheets & Bed Linen

It is a pity that when speaking about the home improvements the first thing that comes into one’s mind is a new kitchen or a bathroom. So many people still do not think of their bed linen and bedding as a part of home improvement process, and that is a shame. After all, you can completely change the appearance and the experience in your bedroom simply by changing your bed linen and that is such a tiny cost to pay for this significant renewal.

Easy care bed linen was very popular in the past, which is so not surprising, if taking into the account the amount of hard work that had to be done at a home laundry. Long time ago the washing of bedding and other items could have taken all week. Fortunately, the quality as well as the convenience of washing machines nowadays allow people finally to be able to feel free to find and use bedding that is really desired for their bedroom. There are hundreds and hundreds of choices out there for all the different colours and designs.

The choices are excellent, but one may be wondering how they can be narrowed. There are three main factors that are used to describe sheets: type of material, fibre length and touch. If you want your sheets to be strong, soft and good quality you should strongly consider 100% cotton. Polyester sheets are not completely bad, but not so pleasant to touch, however do not require so much ironing. Cotton is advantageous because it can absorb moisture, and sheets are more pleasant to touch. Egyptian cotton is a more expensive version in the family of cotton bed linen, but it makes softer sheets and also has some additional advantages.

Fibre length has nothing to do with benefits to your health, but it is very important in making the decision of which bedding to choose. If you are expecting to get the high-quality sheets, you should expect at least 200 thread count. The higher this number becomes the better and more luxury sheets you can expect. However the price is also something that depends on the thread count. High thread count has a lot of advantages including better performance during washing, increased softness and overall appearance. Low thread count tends to become thicker and quickly fall apart. Typically, most people tend to look for 200-400 thread count to increase the quality, but to minimize costs.
The third and last point is a touch. This can be determined by the type of the cotton, thread count, weaving, colouring and other processes. Italian weavers often work very well so naturally their fabrics are one of the best in the world but prices also tend to be higher.

There are several reasons of choosing different bedding materials such as flannel, silk, satin or linen. Some obvious advantages of flannel are that it performs excellent thing during cold winters. On the other hand satin and silk can have the same effect but be of a “higher class” because of their luxury. Silk is a fabulous material, but it can be expensive to dry clean your sheets every week, if you want to take a proper care of them.

There may be a lot of choices out there, but the number of key performers is not so overwhelmed. If you start to narrow it down say to the range of 200 – 400 thread or start looking for some more sophisticated material like silk you can realise that the number of choices has dropped . This may take some effort and you may even have to do some decent research until you find exactly what you are looking for.

  1. bed sets.?
Okay, I am looking for sheets, blankets, pillows, pillow cases. I'm a bit old according to most of my friends haha, but i really love bedding. Even if its used i don't care. I'm willing to wait if its out of the country. Price would be nice if wasn't to much but i'm willing to wait and save for it. Please no harsh or mean comments. Somethings you never get to old for. Imperial Rooms And Sailor Moon to me is one of them :P If you can find mainly a comforter that'd be great. But if you can find a set with all of it.... that'd be even better. Please and Thank you so much.
