Solid colours with contrasting properties against a blank slate of walls and floor are the main features of an interior design style called Contemporary bedroom design style.  There are various categories of the Contemporary style (such as classic contemporary) but they all have the same background.

What Should You Know About Bedding?

Sleep quality, as we know, does not only depend on comfortable mattress, but also on beautiful, soft and environmentally friendly bedding. It is such a pleasure to lie down in bed and feel gentle touches all over the body. Bedding is usually made of the classic and most commonly used fabrics – cotton. It is practical and durable material.

Is Fabric The Most Important In Bedding?

Silk has always been known as the “queen” of all fabrics, and cotton – as a “king”. Both of these materials are used in bedding production. Silk sheets are not available to everyone, because they are expensive.

Cotton is cheaper. As well it is soft enough, natural and comfortable. In addition, the maintenance of cotton bedding is simpler, because it is a long-term resistance to washing.

Recently Viscose bedding sheets are becoming more and more popular. Viscose is a natural fiber, chemically produced from cellulose. This material is its structure is similar to silk, but its maintenance is much simpler.

Synthetic Fabrics Are Uncomfortable

There is a big difference between natural and synthetic fabrics. You can feel it easily. It is enough just to touch it and you can distinguish something natural bedding from synthetic.

Most suitable materials are flax, cotton, flannel (soft, warm cotton fiber), terracotta fabric (similar material for the manufacture of towels, just a little thinner), and satin (of silk quality).

Maintenance

Bed sheets are advised to be looked after in accordance with all hygiene rules – it has to be aired, washed and ironed. Needless to say, colorful cotton and viscose silk or linen should be washed at a lower temperature, and white cotton with a regime up to 90 ° C. It is very advisable to iron the bedding after you wash it as fabric can become softer and more flexible.  If possible, try to dry bedding and pillows and blankets in the fresh air under the sun.

Coloring

It is believed that the quality of sleep, besides other features, depends on the color of linen as well. It is said that the most suitable colors are pastel green, yellow, blue, whitish fabrics. Most important however, still is comfort and quality.

Hard wood floors might be stylish but they tend to get pretty cold during the Winter months. The best choice for a bedroom is therefore generally carpet. On the other hand, if you must opt for a hardwood floor, consider adding a large area rug. Don’t sacrifice comfort and warmth for style. It is possible to have both.

Too Many Colours

Bedrooms are generally pretty personal places. They are the number one room in the house when it comes to self expression. Some people take this too far however and end up with a room with twenty different colours, most of which clash. The result is a room that is anything but relaxing. Effective bedroom design involves limiting yourself to two or three colours that you really love.


Too Much Furniture

Regardless of the size of your new bedroom, you should be able to find a way to store all of your belongings neatly. Consider shelving, under bed drawers and recessed closets.

An Attic Bedroom: Few Tips

Everyone who calls himself/herself a romantic and loves daydreaming, watching clouds or counting stars at night would be fond of a bedroom with a huge roof window in an attic. An idea to turn this free attic space into a bedroom is not bad at all, especially if it is not too large and is not suitable for any other room.

Here are some tips if you decided to establish a bedroom right under your roof:

1.You should mind the roof window- it should not be built straight above the middle of your bed as you might be annoyed by an intensive light during morning hours.  However if there is no other place for you bed, use blinds at least.
 2.Your roof windows should be of a high quality as you do not want to be waked up by raindrops from your window
3.If you are a sensitive sleeper and your roof is made of some light material (say metal) you would not feel good at all during rainy nights (you don’t want to listen to loud wind/rain concerts in your bedroom do you?) So make sure that the roof will not let you down.
4.Again make sure that your roof is good enough, so you would not feel excessive heat during summer period and that you would not be freezing in your bedroom during winter periods. Experts advise to choose relatively heavy material to cover your roof. It would be even better if it had a thick worm wool layer right bellow the roof.
5.You should have in mind that if the walls of your bedroom are sloping (say 45 degrees), you can not fit in your standard furniture (say cabinets or wardrobe). You should get fitted bedroom furniture in such cases and this requires additional expenses.

Fabrics: Egyptian Cotton

Softness, durability and superiority are three main qualities that you can expect from that luxurious type of cotton called the “Egyptian Cotton”. A lot of different products can be made with this cotton starting from all sorts of towels, cloths and clothes to luxurious bedding and luxurious bed linen.


What Exactly Is Egyptian Cotton?

This type of fabric is grown along the Nyle, in Egypt, where great conditions (rich soil and humid weather) are to grow long fibres (staples) of such cotton.  For this reason Egyptian cotton is also classified as ELS, which means an extra long staple cotton. That is so because the fibres of Egyptian cotton have a length from 1.5 to 2.25 inches which is twice as much as other cotton fibres.  This allows them to be spun into soft and yet very strong and durable yarns.

Another great advantage of an Egyptian cotton is a high ability to absorb liquid. This makes it high quality. As well that allows it to soak in fabric dies and as a result it gets very vibrant colours. A colour of Egyptian cotton becomes much longer lasting than other types of cotton. For that reason this fabric is widely used in towel production as bath towels and bathrobes become very soft and absorbent.

Bedroom Design: Shabby Chick (Cottage Style)

This form of interior design is well known to match old-looking (antique) and distressed furniture and furnishings with soft, even pastel, yet cottage style décor.   It also brings in vintage items that often are meant to accent white floors, walls and ceilings.  This all look was evolved by British and successfully later (with some minor changes) adopted by Swedes.
You can distinguish this style easily if you look at the furniture- either naturally old or made-look-old signs are always somehow emphasized. This can be achieved by using glaze or other décor techniques (even by rubbing of the paint with sand paper so the wood would appear). Fabrics are usually linens (especially old French style) and cottons. Pastels, that were specially bleached or (what is even better) warn, and pure white are the most common colours. Everything tends to be bleached and faded quite a lot.
Everything that is antique is also very popular in Shabby Chick Décor. It goes together with old items, shenille bedspreads, vintage pillows, vintage linens, even vintage chandeliers and anything that is decorated with roses. Bedroom Design: Swedish

Concept And Nature Of Swedish Design

Swedish (Scandinavian) design style aims to get most out of little (same as maximalism which also is a trendy approach). This style successfully marries both- sort of elegancy and informality. It is also highly influenced by Swedish nature colours and patterns. Furthermore, what may appear to be a disorderly mass of different colours and shapes actually turns out to be a collection of different interesting stuff that were gathered together in order to bring the best visual appeal.
As mentioned before, this design was highly influenced by the Scandinavian climate (light and air). Long, depressing winters, early dawns and the lack of natural sunlight- all have formed a very special attitude to Swedish interior design and furnishings. Anything that is dark and heavy was replaced with bright, light and gloss elements. Whitish walls, floors and furniture are used to reflect and use those so tiny and rare rays of sunlight to create more joyful, happy and positive atmosphere at home even in the darkest winter afternoons.

What About Bedroom Planning And Structure?

All is based on simplicity, light and easy structures, lots of naturalism and ergonomics. You would find plenty of pictures and other forms of art hanging on walls. It would kind of merge everything (all surroundings) into one harmonious “painting”. It is also very important that all accessories would be very functional and aesthetic.

Bedroom Colours

Think brightness and light- whitish, mint cream, ivory, light blue, ghost white. You would find these in their furnishings, walls, bedding and accessories. Pale yellow and rose (misty rose), greyish, lavender blush, light khaki would also fit in to the spectrum. You would sometimes meet green and even shades of red.

The lines are usually straight but slanting. This interesting duet would appear in details, accessories. The legs of their bedroom furniture (wardrobe/chairs/armchairs/cabinet) would often be posh, waxed and a little bit narrowed at the bottom. You would sometimes however see them roundish or even squaring. Beds have simple, straight, “clean” lines, the wood, if it is used, is light and the bed board is usually soft. Bed hangings are usually made of white batiste and attached either to ceilings or to the wall just above the bet board.

Bedroom Furniture- Other

A proper settee is the main element of Swedish design. They are often met in narrow spaces. These would usually have 6 legs and not too soft backs. However, they would have plenty of small cushions.

Bedding Fabrics And Material

It is very likely that all bedding fabrics are mostly natural. Linen and cotton are the most often used as bedding material. Texture varies however- from plain colours to checked, patterned or even flowered with small flowers. Coloured fabrics would usually consist of two colours and one of these colours more likely than not would be white.
The colour of wood is usually light or painted white. They usually use birch wood, light pine wood or alder wood to complement Swedish design style in bedroom or other house premises.

Huge glass windows, high ceilings, niches, hard wooded floors and traditional Scandinavian stoves. Walls are also bright, usually pale white as well as floors. Designers are taking all possible means to obtain the impression of an open, spacious and light space.

Sateen Vs Satin

What Is The Difference Between Sateen And Satin Sheets?

Well this is a common question. We were also a bit frustrated at the beginning as those two sounds and look so similar.
However they do differ. Although they both made by using the similar weaving technique (of weaving four threads over, and one under as opposed to the traditional one over, one under) in order to make them shiny, soft and smooth, but their origin is completely different.
Sateen is made from 100% cotton or rayon.
Satin is made from different material. It used to be made from silk but nowadays it is more common to find it made from nylon or polyester (so the shining effect would be stronger)
